PSC Leadership at Its Finest

Mike Follis Recognized at TAA For His Body of Work

Every team needs a good coach—someone who will make everyone around them a better person; a person who seems to make everyone better just by being in the same room as you. The coach is a mentor, someone willing to take those under their wing and push them to greatness. A coach also leads by example and will not ask anyone to do something they are not willing to do themselves. The same goes for people in all areas of business. Every industry has leaders, followers, movers, and shakers. The person who embodies traits from each of those is a leader in their industry, and the apartment industry is no different. This industry has an extraordinary amount of leaders, and we’re always happy to see this great group of people recognized for their hard work.

This Spring, AATC was ecstatic to know that TAA recognized Mike Follis with not only the Olin Steele Award (an award given for a supplier partner’s body of work) but also the Frank P Finch Presidential Award for his efforts in going above and beyond in a single year at TAA. It comes as no shock that Mike Follis of was the recipient of these two prestigious awards.

His strong character and willingness to help exemplify his leadership role within his company. Gina Schuler,, who has worked with Mike for the past 17 years, says, “Mike Follis is an exceptional leader and mentor not just to me but to many others…with Mike’s leadership and guidance, he continues to encourage us to be the best we can be and always tells us to believe in ourselves!”

Mike, who has 20-plus years in the apartment industry, was wisely chosen to lead the TAA Product & Services Council under the leadership of TAA Past-President Traci Hall, President—West Region, AMLI Residential. As such, Traci asked him to co-chair the TAA Education conference, which is TAA’s single most significant event during a year. Hall says, “He was part of a team of sponsors that helped us completely overhaul TAA’s sponsorship program and revise the standing rule regarding the Product/Service Council. I was proud to award the Frank P. Finch Presidential award to Mike for his contributions this year.” She goes on to say, “He has also been honored with the Olin Steele award for his dedication and broad body of work over the years, volunteering his time and working SMART to better our associations and industry.  I am proud to call Mike a friend and business partner and congratulate him on both of these prestigious awards—well deserved!”

Mike’s work within AATC does not go unnoticed either. His countless hours and dedication to the excellence of AATC’s efforts are a large part of the reason our association has been recognized as an industry influencer many times in the past few years. Mike has not only served on numerous committees, but he has also volunteered in multiple roles as a committee chair, served as PSC chair, has been an integral part of our board of directors for many years and is a past Vice President PSC. According to John Mitchell, AATC’s Executive Director, Mike is an Association go-to person when AATC needs honesty, integrity, creativity, and compassion. “He cares deeply about his family and friends, his colleagues, the apartment association and the industry he leads on a daily basis…”, says Mitchell. “As an association, we are privileged to have Mike Follis as one of our own. He has been and continues to be a valuable asset to our organization, and we could not be more proud.”

This entire experience has been humbling for Mike. In his own words, winning the Frank P. Finch and Olin Steele awards have been the highlight of his career in the multifamily industry. “Both were honors I never thought I would achieve—It’s truly an honor to receive these awards,” says Follis. He shows no sign of slowing down either. “I plan to continue my involvement with TAA, AATC, and AAGD, just like I have for the past 20 years.”

So next time you see him, congratulate Mike on this esteemed honor and awards!
