Family life presents many different challenges, but with experienced insights and encouragement gently provided by loved-ones, dear friends, and trusted colleagues, I’ve discovered thoughtfully working through each challenge can bring great rewards.
Thinking back to last Thanksgiving, we could never have imagined the impact of a worldwide pandemic. I was happy to have finished working with my wonderful team on our budgets, anxiously considering our upcoming family Turkey Day feast and wondering where we’d be celebrating Christmas – while the Apartment Association was well on its way to a record-setting year of amazing programs and events.
Twelve months later, we’ve found ourselves trapped between a future we don’t know how to navigate and a past we can no longer maintain. Oh, my goodness how things have changed!
The AATC family has been so amazingly gracious as we’ve quickly searched for new ways to serve you. Everything hasn’t turned out the way we had hoped and planned, but most of what we’ve done has been surprisingly well-received. Providing a continuous flow of helpful information; moving quickly to virtual classrooms and networking events; and helping you navigate pandemic-related roadblocks has become our mission in this Covid life experience.
A family-first attitude continues to be the rock-solid foundation for what we do which means sometimes we have to develop a tolerance for disharmony. For AATC, that means we’re determined to work together no matter what difference we must work through; looking for creative new ways to deliver amazing benefits to Association members.
I’ll soon be delivering my annual report to you published in next month’s issue of Dimensions, so stay tuned. I think you’ll see it’s not what we didn’t do that defines 2020 – it’s the family behind what we accomplished through an unbelievably difficult moment in time that’s impressive.
In the meantime, please allow me to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!
