Making It A Happy Holiday for Everyone!

by Keith McAndrew, The Liberty Group, AATC's Community Services Chair

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s that time of year when you roast chestnuts in the fire or when you dream of a white Christmas while hanging the stockings by the chimney with care. For most people, this is a joyous time of giving and caring; but, there are always people who have a hard time this time of year. That is why, every year, AAGD and AATC team up to raise money for our annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive Campaign. As for the toys, let’s just say, it’s a lot. So many, in fact, that it literally builds a mountain of toys. Something you have to see to believe! It’s that time again… time to build a mountain and make a difference!

Not only does our Toy Drive produce thousands of dollars worth of toys, but we also show the entire mountain of toys off at the annual AAGD/AATC Christmas Reception; which just so happens to be around the corner. In case you haven’t been to this one-of-a-kind celebration, allow me to tell you what’s in store for you. For 2-days leading up to the event, the committee works hard wrapping boxes and strategically stacking toys to build the infamous toy mountain, which is proudly put on display for all to admire and appreciate! By the way, our event takes up the entire lobby and entrance of the newly named Renaissance Hotel in Addison (formerly Hotel Intercontinental).

It all culminates as a presentation is made to The Marines to gift them all the toys that were donated and purchased throughout our Toy Drive. It is truly a rewarding experience to be part of. After the presentation is made, it takes the entire attendance to grab a toy off the mountain, form a line, and load all toys into the trucks to be taken to the appropriate warehouses. It’s amazing how quickly we can move those toys when we all lend a hand. So, dig out your cocktail attire and join us on Tuesday, December 11th for a Toys for Tots event unlike any other! Don’t forget to REGISTER ONLINE!

UPDATE: Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to spend just over $80,000 in toys for boys and girls in the D/FW metroplex! If you’d like to see all the toys on display, then come to our annual Toys for Tots Christmas Reception. Hope to see you then!
